Microsoft HQ Trip

Trip of a lifetime to the Microsoft Headquarters in Redmond

Being in the information technology industry, I’ve always wanted to visit the Microsoft HQ. The wanting to visit intensified when I was awarded the Microsoft MVP award. Every year Microsoft hosts a summit for MVP’s in the spring, and for the last few years it has been virtual due to covid. In 2023, the MVP summit was being hosted in person again at the Redmond Campus in Washington. I unfortunately wasn’t able to attend this year, so of course I was disappointed. It was then I decided I wanted to make a special trip down to visit the campus.

I reached out to a contact at the Redmond campus, and started planning the trip. With everything arranged, I booked my hotel, and started packing. I decided I was going to drive from Calgary to Redmond, as the weather was good, and that I would have my vehicle to get around easily.

My 12 hour drive started early in the morning, and with great weather, and satellite radio, it made for a pleasant trip. I got to relax in the hotel for the evening, then headed to the Microsoft Campus first thing in the morning.

My first stop was at building 31 to visit the amazing Microsoft tree house. I’m glad I made that my first stop, as it was so peaceful first thing in the morning.

I was then off to Building 16 to see the Microsoft graveyard of old software, but unfortunately couldn’t find it. I was able to find out more information later, but already left the area. To bad, would have made for some good photos.

Next on the list was building 92, so off I went. I was excited for this one, as this is the infamous spot to get a photo in front of the Microsoft sign. And of course I got several photos!

I then was scheduled to meetup with the Intune team at the Studio A building. I got to meet some amazing people, and was able to have several good conversations on a variety of topics.

Next stop on the list was building 121 to meet with my host, and get some lunch. From hear on, the big tour began. I got to see so many cool spots on the campus, and got to meet with more amazing people.

What an awesome trip! I envy the people that get to work on campus. The people, buildings, greenery, and the culture is simply amazing.

A big thank you to my host Megan, you made this trip possible!
